The Princess of Wales's Yearly Yuletide Service of Carols Spotlights Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The 1,600 guests will hear a blend of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from actors such as Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Centred Around Kindness and Compassion

The theme of the event, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, a support fund, to help households where there is a child with a terminal illness.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an extraordinary difference to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the concert.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The princess has been making her own steady comeback to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Musical Talent and Access

Guests arriving at the Abbey can listen to young musicians backed by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the late Duchess of Kent to increase availability of music lessons.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been supported by the organisation, with grants helping towards equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "awesome" to be performing at the evening's event.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now a student at the prestigious music academy, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.

A Sisterly Duo

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who is a euphonium player, will be present at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many important people," she said.

Among the guests will be people from various age groups.

That will encompass nine-year-old Saphia Turner, winner of a youth community award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for food banks.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been decorated with handcrafted festive wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Taking to the stage will be Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the icing on the cake for us."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on a major network on Christmas Eve.
