An extensive two-month cruise around the Australian Coast is being halted in the wake of the death of an elderly female passenger who was left behind by the cruise liner on a remote coastal location.

Suzanne Rees had been trekking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the vessel, but parted ways from the party for a pause. The ship departed without her and came back later that day after the crew realised the lady was missing.

An extensive hunt discovered her remains the following day.

Investigative bodies are looking into the tragedy, alongside police and the state coroner.

Head of the cruise operator stated that guests and personnel on the ship were informed that the remainder of the journey had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and prior mechanical issues".
