Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has beaten Oscar Piastri at each of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the points lead from his teammate by a single point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before the sprint shootout scheduled for the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, sitting with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he spun at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before spinning across the run-off area, and was blessed to avoid just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, turning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner before the final bend on to the pit straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th place, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with the German's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds slower than the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
