Congress Approves Measure to Make Public Jeffrey Epstein Records

The Senate on this Tuesday quickly approved to a measure that will mandate the disclosure of case documents concerning the deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, after a near-unanimous vote in the House of Representatives and a shift by the president and his GOP allies. The administration relented after an extended period of trying to block the cross-party initiative involving a controversy that has dogged the president since his return to the White House.

Unanimous Passage in Both Chambers

Senators proceeded by unanimous consent, which requires approval from each senator but avoids a individual voting process, expediting the process. Earlier that day, the House overwhelmingly approved the bill on a near-unanimous vote.

“The American people have waited long enough. The survivors have waited patiently,” the Senate Democratic leader declared in a Senate remarks on Tuesday, before asking the Senate to approve it without opposition. “Let the truth come out. Let transparency reign.”

Presidential Signature

The measure next heads to Trump for his approval. He signaled on the previous day that he would approve the bill.

Even though the president has for an extended period dismissed the controversy over the authorities' approach of the investigation as a “false narrative”, he voiced approval for the measure over the weekend, and stated he would give his assent if it is presented to him.

Support and Opposition

The Democratic party, along with those affected and their supporters who were seated in a viewing area, broke into applause after the bill was enacted. The sole “no” vote came from Clay Higgins, who said he was concerned the measure would make public personal information of people, those under scrutiny and others caught up in the investigation.
